Every year the DANX Carousel Group conducts an engagement survey to get a full picture of the engagement in our teams, so that we can continuously improve the work environment. This year, the result has improved significantly. But how do we work with engagement and why is it important? Keep reading to learn more….
What is employee engagement?
According to Gallup (n.d.), engagement in the context of an organisation refers to the involvement and enthusiasm of employees in their work and workplace.
Engaged employees go beyond their job descriptions by showing initiative and creativity and are committed to the company’s goals while actively contributing to achieving them. Being engaged at your workplace, on the other hand, significantly benefits employees by enhancing their job satisfaction, reducing stress, and fostering personal growth (Principe, 2022)
Why is it important?
When employees are engaged, they tend to be more productive and efficient (Clark, 2024). They understand their roles clearly and are motivated to perform their tasks to the best of their ability. This increased productivity directly impacts the overall efficiency of the company, leading to better service delivery and customer satisfaction. For a time-critical logistics company like DANX Carousel Group, where being on time and offering accurate service is crucial, engaged employees can make a significant difference.
In addition, engaged employees are more likely to stay with the company, reducing turnover rates (ibid., 2024). Employees feel valued and recognised for their contributions, leading to increased job satisfaction. This stability is vital for maintaining a skilled and experienced workforce, which is essential for providing consistent and reliable logistics services.
How do we work with engagement?
At DANX Carousel Group, we primarily work with engagement at a local level, ensuring that managers regularly meet with their teams to discuss results and collaboratively develop action plans for improvement. Setting clear goals is crucial for fostering engagement. Discussing the results from our survey and jointly developing an action plan is a way for us to ensure that all employees have concrete objectives and the necessary tools to achieve them.
Additionally, we have implemented numerous initiatives, such as values ambassadors and cultural workshops, where we discuss teamwork and mutual respect with the aim of fostering a caring environment that everyone feels a part of – bringing us closer as a joint group after having merged DANX and Carousel in 2022. Moreover, increased communication with managers prior to our surveys has also heightened awareness and understanding of the process.
Malene Vig Hjarnaa, HR Officer at the DANX Carousel group comments:
“Our company has successfully integrated local engagement as a core process. Now, running the engagement survey for the third time as a joint group, both managers and employees are starting to see its value”.
She continues:
“The key to fostering engagement is clear goal setting. When everyone knows what they need to achieve and we openly discuss this, we create a shared understanding and direction that strengthens our collective efforts – which is the ultimate goal.”
