The logistics and supply chain industry has long been a male-dominated field, but change is happening. In 2023, female representation in supply chains reached historic levels. Yet, recent numbers from 2024 indicate a slight decline, with women now making up 40% of the workforce—down 1% from 2023, according to Gartner’s annual Women in Supply Chain survey (Stifler, 2024). These numbers show that progress is not always steady and that there’s still work to be done.
Turning insights into action
Since merging DANX Group and Carousel Logistics in 2022, we have made gender equality a priority, aligning our efforts with UN Sustainable Development Goal #5: Gender Equality.
To understand where we stand and how to move forward, we joined the UN Gender Equality Accelerator Programme in 2023 and completed it last year. This provided us with valuable insights into our strengths and areas for improvement. As a result, we’ve taken key steps, including conducting a WEPS Gender Gap Analysis, defining focus areas, setting 2027 Diversity Goals, and implementing reporting tools to track our progress. Signing the UN WEPS CEO Statement of Support has further reinforced our leadership’s commitment to advancing gender equality across our business.
But we recognize that policies and promises alone don’t create change—people do. That’s why we’ve recently launched a Diversity Panel, which will be central to turning these insights into concrete actions. The panel brings together employees from across the business to help shape future initiatives, identify barriers, and share best practices. One of its key priorities is laying the groundwork for increasing female representation in middle and senior management.
As the panel develops, we will continue to track our progress through internal metrics and explore new strategies to attract, develop, and retain female talent. While we’re still in the early stages and there’s a lot more to be done, we’re committed to moving forward in a meaningful.
Women in logistics: Why you should join the industry
While we continue working to advance gender equality, it’s important to highlight the women who are already making a difference in logistics. Logistics is fast-paced, dynamic, and full of opportunities. Yet, too often, women don’t see themselves in this industry. We want to change that. At DANX Carousel Group, we believe the best way to inspire more women to join logistics is by highlighting the talented women already shaping our business.
In connection with International Women’s Day, we’ve asked women across DANX Carousel to share their experiences, what they love about the industry, and their advice for other women considering a career in logistics. Their stories prove that while there’s still work to be done, women in logistics are making an impact every day:
Ann-Sofie Ståhl, Sales Director NBS:
Working in logistics is challenging, exciting and just so much fun! Since we deliver a critical part of our customers’ supply chains, we must always perform at our best. My advice to other women considering a career in this industry is simple: go all-in. It’s still a male-dominated field, but I’ve always been supported by my managers, colleagues, and the customers I’ve worked with. There are many successful women in logistics, but we need more – and you’ll be welcomed with open arms!
Katrin Rossmanith, HR Specialist & Apprenticeship Lead
What I enjoy about working in HR within logistics is the combination of people and processes. Logistics is a fast-paced, ever-evolving field, and in HR, I have the opportunity to support employees, develop talent, and create a positive work environment while ensuring that operations run smoothly. It‘s rewarding to know that my work directly impacts both the efficiency of the company and the well-being of our employees. My advice to women considering logistics: Don’t be discouraged by the fact that the industry is male-dominated. Diverse perspectives are needed, and there’s plenty of room to grow. Be confident, invest in your development, and build a strong network. Logistics offers great career opportunities, including leadership roles – so don’t be afraid to aim high!
Eleonora Farris, Group Brand & Content Manager:
Working in the logistics industry often means working behind the scenes, and marketing its features becomes a mission to explain how everything works, all while generating interest. I enjoy working on simplifying industry jargon to storytelling that works for the logistics audience and strengthening our Brand to inspire trust and reliability. Logistics is a historically male-dominated field, but I feel there is so much potential for women’s talent and perspective, from being a truck driver to a supply chain leader. My advice for women would be to give logistics a go and bring their skills and ambition to reshape and innovate the industry.
Emma Sönnerfors, HR Manager NBS:
What I enjoy most about working in logistics is the fast pace and the strong service mindset—every day is about making sure every delivery meets customer expectations and our high standards. The industry’s focus on quality and collaboration means you’re always working closely with colleagues, building strong relationships to make things work. For women considering a career in logistics, my advice is to go for it! It’s an industry where you can truly make an impact, no two days are the same, and there are always new things to learn and opportunities to grow.
Helen Sinclair, Group Finance Director:
“My career in finance has taken me along a varied industry journey but this is the first opportunity for me in logistics. I am lucky to have a role which enables me to work every day with so many great people both within my own team and across different parts of the business. Everyone can relate to transport logistics in some way. Whether it’s a delivery driver arriving at home or the office, seeing convoys of lorries on the motorway or cargo containers moving through airports, our industry services are important to all our lives. Being on the inside of that story is truly fascinating. There are no reasons why we shouldn’t have more women in the industry, so for anyone considering it, or facing an opportunity they aren’t sure of – go for it – I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.”
Malene, Chief HR Officer:
From the outside, logistics might not look exciting, but when you immerse yourself in it, it is full of people who give their utmost every day to make sure that deliveries arrive on time and at the right place. I personally love the straightforward attitude that furthers collaboration, displays resourcefulness, and makes unorthodox solutions possible. That is what makes it so interesting and fulfilling to work in logistics! The industry would definitely benefit from a more diverse workforce, so my advice is that if you like what you read above you will thrive in logistics and should go for it wholeheartedly.
Tayla Hamilton, Network Operations Administrator:
The thing I enjoy most about working in the logistics industry is the dynamic and fast-paced working environment, in which I personally thrive. I am very passionate about developing relationships with both clients and partners as well as developing my own expertise – there is an opportunity to learn something new every day! If you are a woman that is considering a career in logistics, I would definitely encourage you to go for it. The industry has great opportunities, and the variety of roles and potential career prospects are plentiful.
Clair Allen, Transformation Manager:
“When you work in logistics, expect the unexpected as no two days are the same! After years in retail, most recently fashion, I wanted to apply my skills in a new industry. But I never expected logistics to be so diverse, challenging, and rewarding. I love everything about change, and the logistics landscape is ever changing, meaning I get to use my creative, problem-solving and project management skills to implement new initiatives. I also enjoy working collaboratively with different colleagues across a range of roles and departments. The culture also suits me perfectly and it’s great to see a focus on closing the gender gap. My advice to women considering a career shift, would be to give Logistics a try. It provides opportunities for all skill sets and interests and is a great platform to develop and grow.”
Rabia Adeel, FSL/RCD Manager
“The world is constantly changing, and so can you. Believe in yourself, take opportunities, and be part of that change. While logistics has traditionally been male-dominated, success isn’t about gender—it’s about skills, knowledge, and confidence. Challenges can lead to growth. Throughout my career, I’ve faced obstacles, broken barriers and taken on leadership roles, and the journey has been incredibly rewarding. By sharing our experiences and achievements, we support and motivate others. Let’s continue to encourage more women to take their place as leaders in this industry and shape the future together.”
Alison Brindly, Global Compliance Manager
“I’ve been in the logistics industry for most of my working life and although for a short time worked for a different business in the manufacturing industry, the drawback into logistics was too great! It’s the sort of industry that gets into your blood. If someone asked me, “Why should women consider a career in logistics?” my answer would simply be: “Why not?” It’s a fantastic industry in which there are many different career paths and opportunities so don’t hesitate! Logistics is a multi-faceted business that offers diverse roles and career paths with plenty of opportunities for growth. Empowered women in logistics pave the way for a more dynamic, inclusive, and resilient industry – where every role and every contribution matters.”
